I figured he was gone from the show anyway, but if the rumors are true, this is a lot more serious than most of us had thought.

So what's the scoop?
So what's the scoop?
Lots of rumors and speculation, and very little in the way of concrete facts.
Although there's rumors that several medical workers have leaked some info. He allegedly drank bleach or something and was found with stab wounds and it's rumored it was called in as a suicide attempt and apparently Colin Quinn was the person that found him.
Again, all rumors at this point.
How does TMZ always get the scoop on this shit? sometimes I think they're the ones doing shit to these celebs to make news

It looks like some Artie rep made an official statement to them. It's kind of odd how few news sources have picked this up if you ask me.
Funny how with something like this you still get the "it's all a fake radio bit" dipshits.

drank bleach and stabbed? possibly self-inflicted? WTF?!?!
drank bleach and stabbed? possibly self-inflicted? WTF?!?!
I know - so bizarre -
do you stab yourself first and then drink bleach?
drank bleach and stabbed? possibly self-inflicted? WTF?!?!
Weird thing is, hours before that story broke, someone posted it on SFN claiming he heard it from a medical worker, mentioning the bleach and stab wounds. The thread was removed as would be expected, under the assumption it was fake, but it's freaky in retrospect.

I wonder if this will finally be it for Artie? Anyone got any back story on why he was MIA from the Stern show of late?

Probably his depression again, and Howard said that it was his story to tell. Most people assumed he was going to rehab, but that was clearly not the case. A lot of people had already assumed he wouldn't be in Monday, and then this happened.
Yeah, other then hearing rumors he might not be returning to Stern monday - I haven't heard anything as to why he isn't returning - though I guess this turn of events means he won't be returning for a while now even if it is to say he's leaving the show
the skeptical in me says that this could be a stunt to ease the transition of leaving the show - you can't blame a guy for leaving if he's hospitilized..
I really hope that's not true - but the alternative is just as gruesome really
This just in from Orbitcast:
It's been confirmed that Artie Lange, the stout sidekick on The Howard Stern Show, has been hospitalized for yet-unknown reasons.
As first reported by TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/02/artie-lange-hospitalized-howard-stern-show/), Artie Lange was rushed to a local New Jersey hospital on Saturday, January 2nd for undisclosed reasons.
"We can confirm that Artie is in the hospital," a representative for Lange said. "Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor. There will be no further comment."
Lange hasn't appeared on the Stern Show since December 9th (the last show before breaking for the holidays was December 17th).
Artie Lange has also canceled multiple stand-up gigs including a New Year's Eve gig at the Borgata, according to his website (http://www.artie-lange.com/tour.html). Additionally, all dates through February have also been canceled.
Lange has had a history of substance abuse issues, including when he checked himself into a rehab clinic (http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/artie-lange-checks-into-rehab.html) in late 2008. In 2009, Lange was busted for DUI (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b146873_streets_are_safe_from_artie_langefor_now.html) (prescription sleeping pills) after crashing his car into Toms River in July.
The Howard Stern Show is scheduled to return live on Monday, January 4th.

From NY daily news.....
The mystery behind troubled comic Artie Lange's recent hospital stay may be more serious than expected.
Howard Stern's sharp-tongued sidekick was reportedly rushed to a New Jersey hospital on Saturday, the comedian's rep confirmed to TMZ.com, adding Lange "has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor."
However, not all of Lange's skeletons have been kept in the closet.
Lange's hospitalization reportedly occurred after the comedian stabbed himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, The Post reports.
According to a law-enforcement source, Lange's mother called 911 after entering his Hoboken apartment and finding the blood-stained comedian Saturday morning.
Lange's mother reportedly came to visit him to drop off food when she discovered her injured son, who sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges.
Despite heavy bleeding from the incident, surgeons managed to save Lange's life.
Earlier in the week, Stern spoke out about his ailing friend, however wouldn't reveal the reason for Lange's emergency.
"We all have our demons," said Stern, referring to Lange's past battles with addiction. "Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."
Stern, who has hosted the controversial radio program, "The Howard Stern Show," on Sirius XM radio since January 2006, also denied that Lange was quitting the show and being replaced by Jim Breuer.
Lange, 41, had been mysteriously absent from the radio talk show in the days prior to the company's holiday break.

so we might get a statement this week?

It's possible, most people know the story by now though. I doubt he'll be heard from on the show for a while.
I was thinking more of just a press release through his agent or family - something official

C'mon Simon, you like Artie as much as the rest of us. It might be nice if we had Artie's fame and fortune, and we probably could never understand how a guy with the good luck and good fortune could be so fucked up that he would want to kill himself. But who the fuck are We? He was prolly OK doin' blow, but the overthinkers told him NO, No. I did lotsa Coke too Bro, but I backed down when it was right for ME. Maybe Artie has way too much peer pressure, everyone else telling him how his life should be. The Howard Stern show seems to be full of people who are real fucked up. I don't get it. Maybe my simple installing satellite systems, and your driving Beer trucks shit is less stressful. I kinda doubt it though.
